A Promised Land

Paul says “follow me.” We know the Apostle Paul said,

“that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain” (Acts 28:20).

He equates this to “the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers” (Acts 26:6) also the hope of the Gospel, of salvation, of eternal life. Our hope. A hope without which we are “aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise” (Eph 2:12).

Places shaded in blue are where the Promises were made. At Bethel Abraham was promised the land he could see from that place.

The modern reality of where the promises made to the Fathers is illustrated on the map.

At Shechem Abraham was promised he and his seed would be given the land (Genesis 12:6-7). Between Bethel and Hai Abraham is promised the land that he could see would be given to him and his seed forever. On a clear day on a mountain we may see approx. 60km (39miles). He went to live Hebron where he bought land (Gen. 13:3-18).
At Saveh near Salem (Jerusalem) God says to Abraham he would give him and his seed “this land.”

Isaac is promised the land would be given to him and his seed at Gerar (Gen. 26:3-6).

Jacob (Israel) was promised the land would be given to him and his seed at Bethel (Gen. 28:13-19).

When we read ‘mountains of Israel’ in the Bible it means the ancient heartlands of Israel, Judah and Shomron (Judea and Samaria). They are the heart of the Promised Land, once called the Holy Land.

Thou Worm Jacob

The committee were discussing yesterday evening the amazing stuxnet 'worm' which affected Iran's nuclear program, which is estimated to have begun to work in June 2010. Then we noticed it was in our readings for the day of June 17, and we wondered if there was a connection. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. (Isa. 41:14) This morning, I found a worm struggling in the excess water on the saucer/tray of the Peace Lily plant on the table beside where I always keep my Bible. I've never seen any worm before though I've had the plant now six months. It somehow got though the very compacted soil and the tiny holes of the base of the self watering pot, then through the water and then out over the overflow onto the saucer. ...
